I just had my best ever dental appointment at Huffman Family Dentistry! I have extreme sensitivities to certain sounds and sensations, and the scraping of metal on my teeth is a combination of two of my worst issues. In all of my other appointments, I have cried in the chair, had meltdowns, and (at my best) had panic attacks that shook my body while they were working on my mouth. I recently saw a tiktok where someone had similar issues at the dentist, and they recommended asking for plastic tools instead of the standard metal. I immediately called up my dentist and asked if that would be an option for me, and they said that as long as I signed a waiver stating that I understood it wouldn’t be as effective as the metal tools, they could use those instead. I just came out of the appointment, and I did not have any sort of panic response whatsoever. I didn’t cry, I was only mildly uncomfortable, and I was able to keep my composure the entire time. The hygienist was quick and sympathetic, and every person was kind and helpful at every step. If you have issues with going to the dentist and that’s stopping you from going, please consider giving them a call and asking what non-traditional things can be done to help. Huffman Family Dentistry was incredible with me, and now I am not afraid to schedule my next appointment!
