At Huffman Family Dentistry, we believe that the time to act with regards to a child’s oral health is at the first sight of permanent teeth. This is when your child’s teeth are the most susceptible to cavities and other oral problems. It is at this time that you should teach your child to brush and floss after every meal. But even if your child is vigilant, some immature teeth have areas that are hard to reach with a brush and floss alone. And if left untreated, these areas can become hotbeds of activity for bacteria, which can lead to cavities and constant oral problems later on in life.
If your child already has permanent teeth, there is still time to act. Dental sealants can help to protect a child’s teeth well into adulthood.
The Procedure
At Huffman Family Dentistry, we want to make sure that all of our patients are completely comfortable from beginning to end. And this holds especially true when it comes to our little patients.
When you bring your child in for dental sealants, your child’s teeth will be cleaned thoroughly. This will remove all food particles and bacteria from the teeth, and also from the areas that are hard to reach by normal means alone. Your child’s back chewing teeth will then be coated with a thin plastic material that will seep into the hard-to-reach areas and will protect your child’s teeth for years to come.
Good Hygiene
It’s important to note that dental sealants are not a replacement for good oral hygiene. You should still teach your child how to brush and floss often to further protect the teeth from future oral problems.
Taking Care of Your Child’s Teeth
By bringing your child in for dental sealants, you can not only protect your child’s teeth from harm but just think of all the money you’ll save on future dental appointments and procedures.
